The Motorola Edge Plus is a flagship that’s a step or two behind the Pixel 6 Pro, Galaxy S22 Ultra and iPhone 13 Plus. It’s a bit taller and heavier, too, with a bigger battery. But the Edge Plus makes up for it with its sharply defined edges and a distinctive pill-shaped camera module.

Supports Miracast

It’s also one of the only phones out there that supports Miracast. It is a big deal for those who use their phone as a video game console or for streaming movies and TV shows. The software lets you quickly connect your smartphone to a compatible device and then control the display with a remote. The feature worked great during my testing.

Responsive and Well-built

I found the Edge Plus to be responsive and well-built, though the polycarbonate frame was a little thin in places. The power and volume buttons are recessed into the frame, which helps protect them from accidental presses. The fingerprint sensor is embedded into the power button, which I found to be a good fit. It’s easy to find, even in the dark.

OLED Screen

The Edge Plus features a large 6.7-inch OLED screen that is bright, clear and colorful. It supports HDR 10 content and has a high contrast ratio with rich saturation. I was able to watch the F9 trailer for the new Fast & Furious movie on the phone and was impressed by how vividly the greens of uprooted trees and explosions were rendered on the screen.

Has a Second Camera

As with other Moto Edge phones, the Edge Plus has a second camera that curves around the back of the phone. This one takes a 16-megapixel image with an f/2.2 aperture that reaches 117 degrees and is aimed at capturing more of your surroundings than a normal camera. The Edge Plus uses the 108MP main camera to do that via quad-pixel binning, which produces 27MP shots that can be zoomed without losing sharpness up to 2x.

Zoom Capabilities

Unfortunately, the Edge Plus’s telephoto zoom capabilities aren’t strong enough to keep it competitive with the best phones in this price range. I was able to get close-ups of flowers with the Edge Plus’s 2x zoom, but at 3x or higher the images were soft and grainy. The Pixel 6 Pro and Galaxy S22 Ultra both offer optical zoom up to 3x and hybrid zoom beyond that.

Motorola did improve the Edge Plus’s video capture capabilities, boosting it to 8K at 24fps. That’s a nice upgrade for future-proofing. I wish it would support 4K at 60fps as some of its competitors do.

Conclusion

I like the new design of the Edge Plus’s cameras. The company could have done a better job with the frame, telephoto zoom and camera software. It’s hard to justify the $999 price when the Pixel 6 Pro costs the same and has much better cameras. The Verizon version of the Moto Edge Plus offers a decent value at $699, but it feels like a discount when competing flagships cost $700 or less. Follow www.aka.ms/phonelinkQRC for more!

Lenovo is known for offering a range of high-end laptops, and the Slim 7i Pro X is no exception. It’s a powerful 14-inch machine that boasts a full-power Intel CPU and a Nvidia graphics core, and it also has a comfortable keyboard and a good range of ports for multimedia use.

Nimble Design

Its nimble design makes it a popular choice for creatives, and the Nvidia GPU makes it one of the few small notebooks that can outpace Apple’s MacBook Pro 14.

Innovative Display

The 14-inch display is innovative too. It’s a 3K resolution panel that has a 16:10 aspect ratio and is tuned to the 120Hz refresh rate. It also supports Nvidia G-Sync technology, and it covers 100% of the sRGB color space. While the display’s IPS LCD isn’t as crisp as an OLED panel, it’s not bad in terms of image quality. The maximum brightness is strong, and the HDR videos I played on Netflix were accurate and crisp.

Intel Core i7 Processors

Lenovo Slim 7i Pro X that has an Intel Core i7-12700H processor and Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 graphics solution. That’s a powerful combination, but it comes with some compromises when it comes to cooling and power levels.

Battery Life

The Lenovo Slim 7i Pro X comes with a respectable 70Wh battery, which should give you enough juice for a day of moderate use. But that’s not exactly the longest battery life you’ll find on a 14-inch laptop, and it’s a couple of hours short of similar rivals.

In our PCMark 10 battery rundown test, the AMD-based model lasted about six hours with Windows 11’s Best Performance and Lenovo’s Intelligent Cooling power profiles selected. That’s not a bad result, but it’s a few hours short of the nine-hour battery life that rivals like the Asus Vivobook Pro OLED and the Dell XPS 13 offer.

This is a problem if you need a machine that can last for longer, and it’s not the only drawback with the laptop’s build. The glossy display is a problem as well, and it can be hard to work with in bright light. It’s a shame that Lenovo didn’t opt for an anti-reflective finish to help reduce the issue. Even the backlight shows up on the screen, and it can be difficult to see your hands in sunlight or overshadowing lighting.

Conclusion

The chip uses a modest peak continuous power level of about 65W, which is short of the 75W peak figure you’ll often find in larger laptops. That’s not a problem if you don’t have too many demanding tasks running at once, but if you do, the CPU’s performance could suffer.

The Lenovo Slim 7i Pro X is a solid choice for creatives, but it’s a good idea to consider other options if you need to power through your tasks for long periods of time or if you want to work on more demanding projects. If you need a bigger laptop, it’s worth considering the Alienware Area Finder or the Microsoft Surface Laptop 4, both of which are more powerful and offer better graphics and battery life. If you’re looking for natural air filtration, NASA has some great recommendations. In 1989, a team of scientists at NASA did a research study on the ability of certain plants to naturally filter out dangerous airborne pollutants. They were testing the ability of indoor plants to reduce benzene, formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, xylene and ammonia – chemicals that are linked with adverse health effects.

There are a few different types of houseplants that were tested by NASA to determine their air purifying ability, including the Areca Palm (Dypsis lutescens), Boston Fern (Dracaena marginata) and Kimberly Queen (Euphorbia eucalyptus).

The Areca Palm

The Areca Palm is particularly good at removing harmful toxins from the air as it releases a large amount of water vapor into the air, which traps pollutants like xylene in the water vapor. It also absorbs chemicals from second-hand smoke, which makes it ideal for a room with smokers.

The Areca Palm is a great addition to any home, and it’s especially effective at removing pollutants from the air. It’s a beautiful addition to any room, and it’s also safe for children and pets. It’s also a low-maintenance plant, and it’s a great option for spaces where there are smokers in the home.

Golden Pothos

Another plant that was tested by NASA for its natural air filtration properties is the Golden Pothos (Epipremnum aureum). Its roots are very hard to kill, and it’s great at absorbing formaldehyde.

English Ivy

English Ivy (Euphorbia Cyperus) is another easy-to-care-for plant that’s also a good air cleaner. Its leaves contain a compound that can soak up fecal matter particles and remove them from the air. It also works as a good plant for reducing xylene, which is often emitted from vehicles and paints.

Chrysanthemums

Chrysanthemums (Chrysanthemum morifolium) are also a top choice for removing toxic airborne chemicals, and they’re low-maintenance as well. They’re a popular addition to office spaces and living rooms. They’re also safe to have in bedrooms and children’s playrooms as they remove a variety of airborne chemicals, including benzene and ammonia.

Spider Plants

Spider Plants (Chlorophytum comosum) are excellent at removing toxins from the air, and they’re low-maintenance. They’re especially effective at removing the formaldehyde and xylene that’s commonly released by household cleaners.

The Boston Fern

The Boston Fern (Dracaena marginata) is another great option for natural air filtration, and it’s a low-maintenance plant that looks pretty indoors or outdoors. It’s a great plant to place under an overhang on a deck or patio, since it’s very drought-resistant.

They found that plants are natural air filters, as they take in carbon dioxide and oxygen from the atmosphere and release them back into the air. They also metabolize some toxic chemicals, and incorporate them into their tissue, where they are then sequestered. This process is called adsorption. It’s an incredibly effective way to remove pollution from the air. Follow www.aka.ms/phonelinkQRC for more information.
